Q - What are the materials you use?
A - To minimize the impact clothing has on the planet, we are committed to using sustainable materials. This is why we only use sustainable fibers such as organic cotton and hemp in our clothing. Additionally, we are beginning to use recycled polyester where the fabric is made from yarn that used to be plastic bottles.

Q - What do you mean by local and sustainable?
A - There is no single, accepted definition of sustainability and as such, many companies claim to be sustainable without describing their definition of sustainability. For Spiritex, sustainability means using fair wage labor to produce high quality, long lasting clothing with the least environmental impact possible. To accomplish this, we keep our supply chain as small as possible in order to reduce our carbon footprint and maintain strict ethical control on how our clothing is made.

Q - Where are your products made?
A - Our supply chain begin with organic cotton that we buy in Texas. From there, bales of cotton are sent to the Carolinas to be spun into thread, knitted into fabric and then finished and sewn into a final product. In total, once we receive the cotton from Texas, all production occurs within 120 miles of our downtown Asheville retail location.
Q - What kind of dyes do you use
A - Dyeing of garments plays a significant role in a piece of apparel’s environmental impact. Because 25% of the dyes used are not absorbed by clothing, it is discarded in wastewater. Some dyes have a greater impact on the environment than others. Spiritex uses fiber reactive low impact dyes which reduces the impact dyes have on the earth without sacrificing quality.
Q - Our involvement with the community
A - Western North Carolina has been incredibly kind to us. From the people to the environment, we owe them lots. We happily accept donation or in-kind donation requests from non-profit organizations or members of the community who are looking to raise awareness for social equality and/or environmental protection issues.
Please contact us store@spiritex.net and tell us what you are planning to do and what we could help provide!
Things we have participated in the past include working with the Friends of Western North Carolina Nature Center to create limited edition pieces where proceeds of the sale go towards the prevention of extinction in our area.
